If you like driving yourself when you go sightseeing, GyPSy Guide™ tour apps allow you to enjoy a guided tour experience while remaining totally independent. By driving yourself, youll be able to get from place to place faster, see more things and not be tied to anyone elses schedule.

DONT MISS OUT ON THE BEST SIGHTS AND STORIES

The tour apps use your device’s location abilities to play the commentary AUTOMATICALLY. No cell network signal is needed. All you have to do is drive, listen and decide which places you want to stop at. Our tour guides have created an insightful and entertaining tour for Haleakala on Maui. We’ll recommend the best places to experience along the way and some great locations that most visitors will drive by. There’s so much to see and do, GyPSy will help you prioritize what suits you best and make sure you don’t miss a thing.

PLAYS AUTOMATICALLY

GyPSy Guide knows where you are and which direction you are heading, and plays commentary automatically about the things you are seeing, plus stories and tips and advice.

EXPLORE LIKE A LOCAL

It’s just like having a local friend to show you around. And that friend just happens to be a professional tour guide.

GREAT VALUE

The same information you would get on a bus tour or from a guide book, for just a fraction of the price. And you control the itinerary and schedule.

WORKS OFFLINE

No data, cellular or even wireless network connection needed while touring. Download over Wi-Fi before you tour. Anyone can use them with no need for roaming data – even visiting from another country.

DRIVING TOUR ROUTE

This tour includes the most popular sightseeing stops and many more:

1) Pukalani
2) Makawao
3) Hosmers Grove
4) Kalahaku Lookout
5) Haleakala Summit and Crater
6) Plus many more scenic viewpoints

We recommend giving yourself at least a 1/2 day to drive the Haleakala Tour.

If you are planning to visit for sunrise, a reservation with the national park is required and visitor numbers are controlled. At other times of the day, no reservation is required but there is a fee to enter the national park.

If you drive to the end of the Road to Hana, the national park pass is good for entrance to both the summit and the Kipahulu section of the park.

NOTES

Download the app on Wi-Fi from your network at home or use any free Wi-Fi network. Because the app is filled with audio commentary and maps, its larger than "normal" apps. Many phone/data networks may block the download because of size - so its important to download over a Wi-Fi network.

++ Continued use of GPS running in the background increases battery usage - we strongly recommend taking a cigarette style (DC outlet) car charger. This is much better than simply plugging into the USB port in a vehicle.

** iPad users - please note that WiFi-only iPads will not activate the commentary automatically. Any iPhone or network-capable iPad (WiFi + Cellular - whether you have a network connection or not) will work just fine.

Pros and cons of Haleakala Maui GyPSy Guide app for iPhone and iPad

Haleakala Maui GyPSy Guide app good for

We loved it. Make sure you blue tooth it or plug it in to your auxiliary so you can hear it well. It was perfectly synced up with where we were driving, we got some history and the guide had a great sense of humor. I highly recommend it. I want this for everywhere I travel.
The best low budget tour guide, probably better than tour person. Highly recomended.
Super informative and fun. Dont hesitate to get it if you are heading up the mountain.
This app is absolutely incredible. The family and I took road trips to Hana and Haleakala and decided to download these apps. The step-by-step Tour guiding, complete with GPS tracking was absolutely amazing. The accuracy is unbelievable, as the narrator continually gives information on where to stop that we otherwise would never have known. You dont have to look at a map, as even with no cell service it knew exactly where we were. The added cultural and historical information really enriched the drives. Better than the CDs sold around the island, this is well worth the price. I would give it six stars if I could.
It was very nice to be able to connect with blue tooth and listen to the commentary as I drove up the mountain. We liked the cultural insights and the volcano lesson
We have used all the Maui apps from Gypsy Guides and think the world of them! We feel safe driving around everywhere with an experienced tour guide and enjoy all the tidbits we pick up about the island and history on the way!

Some bad moments

I found this app useful. Made the trip to the top of the mountain much more enjoyable and relaxing. I bought it after we used the counterpart app on the road to Hana (which was indispensable) the guides voice on Road to Hana was very friendly. By the end of the trip he was like a pal. I was looking forward to another trip with my virtual bud but this one is narrated by a woman who was ok. One criticism is the app should include some "before you go" tips. No sense getting on the road and then learning you need a sweatshirt. If I go back to Maui I would def use the rest of these tours.
This was a great way to tour Haleakala on our own time schedule. The guide uses GPS to tell you about the area you are in and even redirects you if you miss a turn.
We loved this guide. Made the trip up the mountain very educational for my whole family. She even suggested we go through town to grab a Starbucks on the way back. Lots of very useful information about the island and how it was formed.
Work great throughout the trip. We lucked out and no clouds while we made the trek up and back. Recommended for this trip and Road to Hana.
Wonderful app.... Nicely done. Added so much on my recent trip to Maui Informative and easy to use. Highly recommended. I also suggest the Road to Hana tour.
This app is terrific. Very accurate and insightful. Same for Road to Hana.
